Yambaru Art Festival Prehistoric workshop: Stone Axe in Okinaywa

12/2-17, 2019

What may become with softest wood and the hardest stone? In this workshop, we will focus on the prehistoric spirit and bring up the experiment of natural materials. This time we will lead you to make a stone axe, build a camp on the land with bare hand, and learn and gather the edible ingredients available in the environment and cook together. Stone axe is usually made by three different processing methods: sewing, tanning and grinding. It is a kind of slashing tool which main function is to cut down trees. We will try to abandon modern tools and make the primitive tools in the most primitive way including stone tapping and grinding, fire drill holes, selection of binding materials and binding methods.
